In the first quarter of 2025, Canada approved over 834,000 temporary resident applications, encompassing study permits, work permits, and visitor visas. This significant influx underscores Canada’s appeal as a destination for international students, skilled workers, and tourists. However, it also presents challenges in managing resources and ensuring sustainable growth.

Breakdown of Temporary Resident Approvals
Between January and March 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada ( IRCC ) processed a total of 1,370,400 temporary resident applications, approving 834,010. These approvals are categorized as follows:
- Study Permits: 96,015 approvals, highlighting Canada’s status as a premier destination for international students.
- Work Permits: 186,805 approvals, reflecting Canada’s demand for skilled labor across various sectors.
- Visitor Visas: 273,990 approvals, indicating Canada’s continued attractiveness to tourists and business visitors.
Additionally, IRCC finalized 159,200 study permit applications (including extensions) and 396,000 work permit applications (including extensions) during the same period.
