Updates Regarding A Permanent Residence Pathway For International Student programs

On 14, April 2021 Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship declared that IRCC will work on launching new permanent residency streams for over 90.000 essential workers and international students who reside in Canada temporarily for studying there.

On 6, May 2021 IRCC will start receiving 40,000 applications for international students who graduated from one of the Canadian universities or colleges within the last 4 years.

Permanent Residence Pathway For International Student

In the last few weeks, Minister of immigration Sean Fraser stated in a virtual interview with ApplyBoard that IRCC is planning to open new streams for international students to obtain PR.

Fraser said: “Our message to international students and graduates is simple, we don’t just want you to study here. We’re hoping to create pathways that allow you to stay here and make a lasting contribution beyond your academic career.”

In 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) states facilities into its Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) program including allowing international students to complete 100 percent of their Canadian programs online and to work in Canada after graduation.

International Student’s Challenges In Canada

There are many challenges that international students are still facing to arrive in Canada such as the necessity of convincing the Canadian government they will return to their home after graduation as well as the procedures of obtaining a study permit, and the conditions of applying for a work permit after graduation.

Under Progress Solutions For International Students’ Challenges In Canada

I hope to implement those solutions so more people can come here on a pathway to permanent residency when they apply,” Fraser said.

Fraser, in his interview, stressed that there are many solutions that government will work on, but he did not give more details about the solutions for this issue.

We’re doing some of the policy work now. It’ll take us a little bit of time. It’ll allow people to better plan their succession to come here to study and then after they’re done to transition to permanent residency.” Fraser said.

Now, IRCC is working on releasing new streams for international students to stay in Canada permanently. And they will announce these streams when it is ready. Due to the huge number of study permits released last year, which is 621,565, IRCC will accelerate the processing of study permits.

This is a simple plan for International students to get PR, after arriving in Canada they will be able to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit, then search for a job in Canada and apply for Express Entry to get PR.
