This started only with an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, where for the first time, Canadian residents of the country or their family members who were injured in that section of the globe have been supported.

On October 16th, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, announced splendid actions to provide Gazans arriving in Canada with financial help for the ones stricken by the crisis in Gaza to rebuild their lives in Canada.

In addition to the economic assistance that Gazans can take advantage of. Also, they have access to some vital services to make it easier for them to live and integrate into Canadian communities.

In the following, we’ll discuss these services in detail:

1. Temporary Health Coverage

IRCC offers three months of health coverage under the Interim Federal Health Program. This coverage is important for Gazans, especially those who are affected by the conflict and need urgent medical treatment.

2. Settlement Services

Settlement offerings are provided to ease refugees’ lives in Canada, which can be discussed in the following:

  • Language training to enable them to fit well into the Canadian environment.
  • Basic services like help to open an account with a bank, help in getting health services and help children get an educational place.
  • Support in finding a job that suits you and your experience to build a foundation for economic independence.

3. Fee-Exempt Study and Work Permits

Canada provides Gazans with fee-exempt open work permits and study permits; these fee-exempt permits are an opportunity for those who want to pursue their studies or to start working in Canada with no fees to start over in a new country.

Canada’s proactive method to the core of the crisis

The state of affairs in Gaza is difficult, as it’s miles harder to exit Gaza for reasons past Canada’s management; however, Canada is constantly welcoming people who can make their way to Canada.

This approach aligns them with Canadian humanitarian values and its status as a country of refuge. Minister Miller emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating:

“We remain deeply committed to supporting Palestinians during the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and are concerned about the well-being of all people in the region. Providing settlement and financial support is critical to addressing the immediate challenges faced by Gazans in finding safety in Canada. We will continue to help those seeking refuge live and thrive in communities across the country while advocating for everyone’s safety.”

Key facts and statistics about the new actions

From October 5th, 2024, Canada has introduced some changes to attempt to increase the rate at which it processes the application to allow Gazans into the country. Let’s discuss the key facts:

  • Based on the new temporary admissions policy, 334 individuals have already entered Canada.
  • 4,245 applications had been common beneath the temporary resident pathway for people who are extended family members in Gaza.
  • 733 individuals who already have a temporary resident visa (TRV) and exited Canada have been approved to enter Canada.

Considering October 5, 2024, 348 Palestinians were authorized to go into Canada either through the TRV or the temporary resident permit. And those who left Canada after October 7, 2023, are probably eligible for assistance through present programs.

Canada’s humanitarian assistance funding

As for Canadian efforts closer to the humanitarian disaster, IRCC has introduced $140 million as humanitarian assistance for pressing desires in Gaza, the West Bank, and neighboring regions. This funding will include:

  • Food and clean water.
  • Protection services.
  • Emergency medical treatment.
  • Any other form of life-saving aid.

All this financial aid is to underscore Canada’s dedication to humanitarian aid for all Gazans and its efforts in this conflict.

The challenges of exiting Gaza and Canada’s continued efforts

Canada is operating carefully with local authorities to facilitate the go-out of an extended circle of relatives participants in Gaza to start a modern-day lifestyle in Gaza; however, most of the time it can be out of Canada’s management.

Those measures are also valid for Gazans who are already in Canada and aiming to increase their lives for safety; it is also extending their fame to make certain being in Canada legally.

Canada always cares about humanitarian values; that’s why it is always paying attention to assisting Palestinians and individuals who seek support and help from another country. The kind of support that Canada offers for refugees can be presented in the form of financial aid as a new action to be applied, vital services, and humanitarian aid funding.
