Study permit rejected? Here’s what to do next
At Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), students whose study permit is rejected have no right to appeal.
Still, they may appeal for a review of their decision if they have more evidence that can nullify the rejection.
Note: Since January 22, 2024, PAL is to be provided alongside the international student’s application for the study permit. More about the significance of this letter will be described in the rest of this blog.
Common reasons for Canada student visa rejection
The following are some of the reasons that cause many students to have their Canada student visa application rejected: Here’s why:
1. Insufficient Proof of Funds
One of the common reasons includes being unable to prove that the applicant has sufficient financial means to cover his or her tuition fees and the cost of living in Canada.
2. Having No Connection to the Home Country
Candidates are required to show they will go back to their respective countries after their studies. This cannot be done unless one succeeds in persuading the authorities; otherwise, the application is bound to be rejected.
3. Delays and Incomplete Documentation
At other times, time lost in obtaining or even presenting the necessary forms could be fatal. This is usually the case, especially when immigration agents are either very slow or have little experience.
4. The Role of Professional Counseling
An RCIC is a person who is allowed to provide immigration services and knows all the rules and guidelines that the IRCC has set for consultants.
Official document review is more approached by RCICs given the fact that they are in a better position to analyze and understand your profile, identify any mistakes in your documents, and help you with your immigration application. With their help, such an occurrence turns into an exceptional event because the chances of its repetition are minimized.
Making an application can get a push when it is done by a certified consultant since some factors that may lead to the application’s rejection are noted from the outset.

Essential information for reapplying for a Canadian Study Permit
Here are key details to keep in mind when preparing to submit a second study permit application to IRCC:
Reapplication Timing
You can do this at any time, and it is advised that you do this when your existing PAL is still valid since it is one of the required documents when reapplying for a study permit. Don’t wait till the PAL expires to submit your application. If the PAL does not include an expiry date, it is assumed to be valid until the 21st of January, 2025.
Requirements for Reapplication
However, before reapplying for the FDA, there are various documents that you have to produce—Preparation of Several Documents. However, you should realize that the PAL must be valid only on the date when the IRCC receives it with your application. It does not have to be a current or valid one at the time when your application is being processed.
Because there is no provision for an appeal against the rejection of a study permit application, it is important to build up the second attempt. The only time that the IRCC will review the application is when the applicant has enclosed additional evidence or documents that address the matters arising from the initial filing.
To enhance your application, you should look at the fact that the request was turned down in the first place. In addition, contemplate GCMS notes for further feedback apart from the refusal letter. For instance, if the refusal was because you would soon go back home, you would offer more evidence of having ties with your country, for instance, property, employment, or dependents.
