International student numbers grew by 20%

As of December 31, 2018, there were 572,415 international students in Canada. This number from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)* represents a 16% increase over 2017 in which international student numbers grew by 20%.

• International students in Canada can work for up to 20 hours per week during the semester, and on a full-time basis during school breaks.
• The tuition fees are usually lower than in other countries.
• The spouse or common-law partner of an international student may obtain an open work permit, allowing them to work any hours they wish and for any employer.
• International students in Canada can bring their children to Canada, and the kids can receive FREE public elementary and secondary education in Canada.
• Graduates can work in Canada for up to three years on an open post-graduation work permit.
• Students and graduates are also set on a path that may lead to permanent settlement in Canada.
