Quebec releases a list of occupations eligible for facilitated LMIA, for 2022, and Quebec expects newcomers will fill nearly 22% of the labour market needs by 2026.
Quebec has expanded the list of occupations eligible for the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to 228 for this year 2022, up from 181 for the previous year in 2021. This list covers all parts of the province, to meet the demands of the labor market in all regions of Quebec. Quebec expects new arrivals to fill nearly 22% of the labour market needs by 2026.
The purpose of announcing the list annually is to speed up the recruitment of temporary foreign workers to work in sectors with a large employment deficit, to help employers who cannot find resident or Canadian workers to fill in the jobs, and make it easier to meet the needs of the province’s labour market.
The Ministry of Immigration grants a 30-day transition period, from February 24, 2022, to March 24, 2022, to allow the employer, or their representative, to have applications submitted under last year’s list reviewed If the profession does not appear on the current list. This list is based on the Federal Government’s National Professional Classification System (NOC) for 2016.
Quebec employers offering jobs that correspond to one of the occupations on this list must follow the LMIA facilitator procedure. Here’s the list of occupations eligible for simplified processing under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, effective February 24, 2022:
